At Power Dekor Flooring Australia, we are committed to providing high-quality laminate flooring products designed for durability, style, and long-lasting performance. Proper installation is essential to ensure the best appearance and maximum lifespan of your flooring. This guide has been prepared to help customers understand the recommended installation process and basic maintenance requirements for laminate flooring.

Please note that this guide applies to laminate flooring only. For solid timber flooring and bamboo flooring installation, we recommend using professional installers to ensure the best results and proper handling of natural timber products.

Before Installation

Before installation begins, carefully inspect all flooring boards for any visible damage, colour variation, or manufacturing defects. Flooring should not be installed if any damage is detected. It is also important to ensure that the subfloor is clean, dry, smooth, and level before laying the boards. Uneven surfaces may affect the stability and appearance of the finished floor.

Allow the flooring boards to acclimatise to the room environment for at least 48 hours prior to installation. This helps the flooring adjust to the temperature and humidity conditions of the space.

Step 1
Plan the First Row

Begin installation from the left-hand corner of the room. Position the boards with the grooved side facing the wall. Expansion gaps of approximately 10mm should be left between the flooring and surrounding walls or fixed objects. Spacers are recommended to maintain consistent expansion gaps during installation.

Proper spacing is important because laminate flooring naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity.

Step 2
Install the Boards

Carefully connect the boards row by row according to the locking system provided. Use a tapping block and hammer gently when necessary to secure the joints firmly without damaging the board edges. If the leftover board from the first row is longer than 200mm, it can be used to start the next row to create a more balanced and natural staggered appearance.

Continue installing the boards one row at a time while ensuring all joints are tightly connected and aligned correctly.

Step 3
Complete the Flooring Installation

As installation progresses, use a pull bar where required to fit the final boards securely into position, especially near walls or tight spaces. Once all flooring boards have been installed, remove the spacers and install skirting boards or trims to cover the expansion gaps.

Skirting boards should be fixed to the wall rather than directly to the flooring. This allows the floor to expand and contract naturally without restriction.

Laminate Flooring Maintenance Guide

Proper care and maintenance will help preserve the appearance and performance of your laminate flooring for many years. Regular cleaning and preventative care are recommended to minimise wear and surface damage.

Maintenance Recommendations

  • Use door mats at both interior and exterior entrances to reduce dirt and moisture.
  • Place rugs in high-traffic areas to minimise surface wear.
  • Install furniture leg protectors to prevent scratches and dents.
  • Lift furniture instead of dragging it across the floor.
  • Clean regularly using a vacuum cleaner or a well-wrung damp mop.
  • Avoid excessive water exposure or soaking the floor.
  • Never use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals on the flooring surface.

Proper Care for Lasting Flooring Quality

With proper installation and maintenance, Power Dekor laminate flooring will continue to provide comfort, durability, and timeless style for your home or commercial space.
